Fresh starts are a gift from God, but sometimes we hesitate to embrace them. We hold on to the past (mistakes, disappointments, or even familiar comfort) because stepping into the unknown requires faith but when God calls for a new beginning, He doesn’t ask us to figure everything out. He asks us to trust.
There’s something about this time of year the shift in the air, the way the snow begins to melt, and the first signs of spring begin to show. It’s a reminder that change is happening, whether we see it fully or not.
Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
That phrase “springs up” stands out. Just like the changing seasons, God is always at work, bringing new beginnings into our lives.
As nature shifts, this is the perfect time to do our own spring cleaning: inside and out. What do we need to clear out spiritually, emotionally, or even physically to make room for the new thing God is doing?
Let’s take a moment to reflect with these journal prompts:
What is one thing I feel God is calling me to release, and what fears or doubts are keeping me from fully letting go?
How have past fresh starts in my life led to unexpected blessings, even when they didn’t feel good at first?
If I fully trusted God’s plan, what bold step would I take today toward my new beginning?
Now, let’s pray over this season of renewal…
A Prayer for Fresh Starts
Heavenly Father,
I come before You with a heart open to Your will. I acknowledge that I have held on to things You have asked me to release the fears, doubts, and past mistakes. Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have resisted Your call to move forward.
Your Word reminds me that You make all things new. Today, I choose to step into the fresh start You have prepared for me. I repent for any ways I have allowed fear to keep me stuck, for any moments I have doubted Your plan.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). Let my faith be greater than my hesitation. Let my steps be ordered by You. I trust that You are guiding me into something greater.
Thank You for being a God of new beginnings. Thank You for the grace to start again. I surrender this season to You, knowing that Your plans are always good.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
AMEN!
