Walking in Wisdom: A Devotional & Prayer for Proverbs 18

My gifts make room for me.
Proverbs 18 is a chapter that speaks deeply to the power of words, the strength of knowledge, divine opportunities, and the gift of partnership. Today, as I reflect on my birthday, I see this as a chapter that aligns with my personal journey, my calling, and the doors that are opening before me.
Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” No matter what transitions come, my refuge is in God. He is my safe place, my foundation, my security. No storm can shake me when I am anchored in Him.
In tarot the Tower card often symbolizes destruction, but when you trust God, you realize He is catching you, not letting you fall. What feels like a collapse is actually a breakthrough into something greater.
It’s not destruction, it’s divine redirection.
Proverbs 18:15 reminds me that wisdom is a lifelong journey. “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.” The wise are those who seek not just passively receiving, but actively listening, learning, and applying what they know.
I am always open to learning, growing, and being poured into. Right now, I’m at a wellness spa and resort, taking classes that nourish my spiritual and mental growth. Sometimes, even the instructor needs instruction. I never want to be too prideful to seek wisdom. This is a season of intentional growth, of stepping deeper into my spiritual gifts, my purpose, and my calling.
Proverbs 18:16 says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.” This verse resonates with me on a soul level. I know that my spiritual gifts, my calling, and my voice are creating space for me. God has placed talents within me not just for myself, but to serve, to guide, and to uplift others. This is a promise that I don’t have to fight for a seat at the table. My gifts will open doors, create opportunities, and usher me into divine alignment.
Proverbs 18:21 is deeply personal. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” I have spoken curses over my own life, and I have spoken curses over others. I repent. Psalm 107:14 reminds me that God “brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.” I trust Him to break the curses I spoke over myself and others. I am learning to train my thoughts so that when negativity rises, I replace it with truth. The enemy attacks the mind first, but I am covering mine in the Word of God.
This is a season of speaking life. Our words hold creative power. We must be intentional about speaking favor, abundance, and breakthrough over our life. We cannot allow fear, doubt, or negativity to shape our reality.
Instead, declare:
• I am blessed and highly favored.
• God is making room for me.
• Every door meant for me is opening.
• I walk in wisdom and divine clarity.
Proverbs 18:22 says, “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favor of the Lord.” This is a reminder that love is not about chasing, it is about alignment. When the right person enters your life, it is an extension of God’s favor. I trust that the divine connections in my life (whether in love, friendship, or business) are being aligned by His hand.
I wrestle with my desire for love and partnership, but I trust that if marriage is my path, God will prepare me without compromising my connection to Him. I have been celibate for five years, and I love where I am…fully focused on God, myself, and my purpose. If marriage is part of my destiny, I pray that God sends a man who is not only who I want, but who I need: a true divine assignment.
Proverbs 18:24 reminds me that family is what you build, not always who you are born into. “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” I am learning that blood is not always thicker than loyalty. Many people in my bloodline are just relatives, but my true family is the one God has allowed me to build. My friends have poured into me in ways I cannot even put into words. They show up for me without me having to ask…they just know, they just care.
My birthday prayer is that everyone who has poured into me will be poured into by God.

🙏🏾 Let us pray
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the wisdom found in Your Word. Proverbs 18 reminds us that our words, our choices, and the counsel we keep shape our lives. We surrender our plans to You, trusting that You establish our steps. Teach us to speak life over ourselves and others, to seek wisdom with an open heart, and to walk in alignment with Your divine purpose.
Lord, we repent for any words spoken in doubt, fear, or frustration that have created barriers in our lives. We ask You to break every negative word, thought, or agreement that is not in alignment with Your will. Strengthen us to choose faith over fear, wisdom over folly, and patience over impulsiveness.
May we walk with discernment, knowing that You are our strong tower, our provider, and our guide. Surround us with wise counsel, align us with divine opportunities, and prepare our hearts for the blessings You have in store. We receive Your promises of abundance, joy, and purpose.
We seal this prayer in faith, trust, and divine alignment.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
✨ Affirmation: I am stepping into a season of wisdom, alignment, and abundance. My gifts will make room for me. My words will create life. My steps are divinely ordered.
