Walking in Confidence: A Devotional & Prayer for Courage

What if fear is only as powerful as we allow it to be?

Proverbs 3 reminds us that wisdom isn’t just about knowing: it’s about trusting. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Fear creeps in when we rely on our own strength, but when we lean into God’s wisdom, we are reminded that the enemy has no power where faith and trust in God remain firm.

Psalm 37:3 says, “Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.” This is a call to active trust—not just believing in God’s promises but walking in them. Proverbs 3 teaches us that when we honor God with our choices, seek wisdom, and refuse to be shaken by fear, He directs our steps, strengthens our hearts, and ensures we walk in His divine protection.

We often think courage means the absence of fear, but real courage is moving forward despite fear, knowing God has already gone before us.

Let’s take a moment to reflect with these journal prompts:

  1. Where in my life am I allowing fear to hold me back from trusting God fully?

  1. What does it mean for me to “lean not on my own understanding” in this season?

  2. How can I actively walk in courage, knowing the enemy has no power over what God has already secured for me?

Prayer for Courage & Overcoming Fear | Rooted in Proverbs 3

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today, surrendering every fear, doubt, and hesitation. Your Word tells me to trust in You with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. Lord, help me to release control, to stop overthinking, and to walk boldly in the path You have set before me.

Your Word says in Psalm 37:5, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this.” So today, I commit my life, my plans, and my fears into Your hands. Let my trust in You be greater than my fear of the unknown. Remind me that fear has no authority where faith is active.

You did not give me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and every plan of the enemy is already defeated. I walk forward in confidence, knowing that You have gone before me, and Your wisdom is my guide.

Lord, strengthen my heart, sharpen my discernment, and fill me with the courage to stand firm, move forward, and trust You completely. I seal this prayer in unwavering faith, knowing that the enemy has no power over my life, my mind, or my future.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
